Models have more talent than just looking good! Check out Sasha Pivovarova’s illustration for Chanel. It was influenced by her Russian background and was the perfect piece for the Chanel runway show that chose Moscow as its desitnation. It was Karl Lagerfield himself who requested her art work. Sasha’s love for the arts is nothing new. Sasha was studying at the St. Petersberg Art Institute before signing with IMG Models in NYC. Sasha mentions doing an illustrative book for Prada and Chanel. Beauty and brains, who knew?!
“My drawings were inspired by the joy of seeing fairytale characters coming to life in one of the main theaters of Moscow, the city where I was born.”

If you haven’t heard of the brand BLVK SCVLE you are probably on another planet. Bay Area design duo Mega and Alfred are proud to announce their first pop up store in San Francisco. In years time, they’ve created more than t-shirts. They’ve crafted a brand that has become a lifestyle. It is not your typical t-shirt graphic print in this over saturated industry called “streetwear”. More so, a highly strategic and conceptual story line that is the backbone of the the brand. Think Picasso or Cezanne on a really baaaad day where their thoughts of religion, conformity, and symbols are questioned. Congrats to them, we can’t wait whats in store….literally.
The 114-year-old luxury department store, Henri Bendel, announced that it will stop selling clothing and focus instead on its accessories and cosmetics. For all of their existing items will be on sale at Gabay’s Outlet in East Village, New York. Gabay’s items are usually priced at 50% to 80% off retail! Who saw this coming? 114 years in the retail business, it is so sad to see the store go. Henri Bendel’s had a nice layout. The place was never too crowded and their interior felt upscale but friendly. I’ll miss their wrought iron accents, marble flooring and most of all their signature brown stripe awning.
All of Henri Bendels items such as Chanel, Manolo, and Jimmy Choos shoes, in addition to YSL and and Oscar de la Renta clothing will be there. *sigh*

Who is this John Bartlettand why is he doing a line for…..Liz Claiborne? Ok well let me inform you, John Bartlett has been in the fashion game for a minute. He graduated from Havard with a Sociology degree but decided to persue his dream in fashion by finish a degree at Fashion Institute in NY. Since then he launched his own label that caught eyes at Barneys and Bergdof Goodman. After many awards and achievements he took a sabbatical. I suppose the fashion industry is too fiesty to handle that one needs a vacay, yes? No? John brought it back to his passion and opened a store in the West Village. If you heard the buzz Liz Claiborne owns many lines including Lucky Brand, Juicy Couture, and Kate Spade that didn’t do well in numbers. Seeing the need for fresh talent and better financial numbers, the Claiborne company hired John fill those voids.
Overall I think his look is great, but is it enough? John will be heading the menswear of the Claiborne brand. His spring look from his own line is a mish mash of graphics and colors. The collection seems to contradict itself. What makes it contradicting is that he has some greys, whites and really dark navys going on, isn’t this a spring collection? One look he has below is heavy on the navy and includes suspenders, there is no break in the color palette. That look looks more appropriate for Fall. He has some winning looks in his collection such as the white shorts with the grey top and grey sweather with a white collared button up. Now what do you think? Let us know!!
I have been blessed with the opportunity to work for the Yumi Kim label, and the designer Kim Phan is graciously offering two great deals through DailyCandy and Lucky Mag. Word of advice is to use them quick because we’ve been slammed with orders in just the last 2 days.
If you are in New York, pop by the flagship store in Lower East Side and say hi. You can also use the discount in the store…but you didn’t hear it from me! If you are no where near the East Coast, I’d be happy to answer questions about the colors and fit.
I never thought that Spring would actually come, so you better believe you’ll see me in nothing but these fresh YK prints until the first signs of Fall.
I wore a Betsy Johnson dress on my eighth grade graduation (yes there was such a ceremony in my wee little town), imagine that same dress now recreated by one of the America’s beloved, Opening Ceremony. Yes yes my darlings Betsey Johnson has paired up with the creaters of Opening Ceremony, Umberto Leon and Carol Lim to develop Betsey Johnson Archive. They will be revamping the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s get ups (so much for my grad dress). Betsey’s work has been such a contribution to American fashion because it is always colorful, youthful, bright, funky, retro aesthetic that not many labels succeeded at. It launches in August at Betsey Johnson Stores, so there is a bit of a wait.

I wend to quickly pass by the chaos down the street from my office to get a glimpse of what I may have to encounter later when I can take a break from work. I ran into Ray, Dennis and Denise!
Here are some photos… they were serving breakfast to those in line – including PINKBERRY!!!
Dimepiece’s Summer ‘09 collection, “Plastic City,” tells a tale of their muse and nemesis: “Barbie, the plastic devil.”
We based the collection on the immense physical idealism that Hollywood puts on its youth and the youth across the globe. In essence what we’re trying to say is that you don’t need to ever rely on your appearance for recognition. So! That explains that…for now. Ready to shop?…
You might be asking, “so why do they have a tank top with shaved Barbie heads all over the place?” I can explain the Barbie part, but the shaved heads was just out of pure eccentric enjoyment. The general male consensus of a “Dimepiece” is a woman with the body of Barbie, with her most recognizable attribute being her appearance…a little degrading, right? We mean for the term “DimePiece” to be ironic, and to turn the perception of the word around and be able to use it proudly.
I’m glad to see that the ladies of Dimepiece have been taking their creativity and skills up to the next level season after season. I am looking forward to future collections as the line gets larger and larger!
