“fight klub” – 2008 – Brian Viveros

I’m pretty finicky with my wallpaper images on my blackberry.

Truth be told – for past year I found myself falling back on my old standard – JAMES FRANCO.

YUM.

Until I came across the works of Brian Viveros. Double Yum.

Blood. Tattoos. Nudity.

. . . and the ubiquitous dangling cigarette

The girls that inhabit the world of Mr. Viveros are the very essence of grimy, sexy and dangerous

Maybe one day I’ll be lucky enough to own one of his originals (I’d hang it above my stove, or maybe my bed)

until then

Ms. Fight Klub lights up my blackberry with her smoked out eyes and bloodied knuckles.

love, Mayk

Sasha Pivovarova’s art for Chanel

Models have more talent than just looking good! Check out Sasha Pivovarova’s illustration for Chanel. It was influenced by her Russian background and was the perfect piece for the Chanel runway show that chose Moscow as its desitnation. It was Karl Lagerfield himself who requested her art work. Sasha’s love for the arts is nothing new. Sasha was studying at the St. Petersberg Art Institute before signing with IMG Models in NYC. Sasha mentions doing an illustrative book for Prada and Chanel. Beauty and brains, who knew?!

“My drawings were inspired by the joy of seeing fairytale characters coming to life in one of the main theaters of Moscow, the city where I was born.”

iDR LIVE ARTISTS SUMMER SERIES ReCap, June 09

If you didn’t make it out, too bad!

Our LIVE ARTIST SUMMER SERIES was an awesome night…nothing but great reviews from all the people that came out and supported to the wonderful staff at Orson. The aerosol artists were out in the front of the restuarant|bar|lounge so that the community, passerby-ers, and residents could enjoy. The artists were beyond talented, even Top Chef’s Master herself, Elizabeth came out to take pictures. Staff inside Orson came out to see what all the rave is about these artists, “amazing” is what they told me. Inside there were a lot of great conversations, networking, exchanging bcards, drinking, and of course eating (who couldn’t pass up those duck fries?). Goodie bags were quickly swept up by the end of the night. Everyone kept asking “is this a weekly, can I come back?“, well its not a weekly but we are continuing this series each month of the summer- July and Aug…so definitely come back, we’d love to see you! So we all drank, chatted, and ate until 10p which is beyond happy hour schedule, but who counting hours anyways?

On behalf of the iDR team i’d like to personally thank you the following people:

Plywood or Canvas?

Today one of our artists emailed me an affordable way to use plywood instead of canvas. Its affordable and its just as good. Here are his instructions:

HomeDepot is probably the best place to go as they have cheap plywood & mis-tinted enamel paint. Instructions:

- Grab whatever type of plywood is most affordable and relatively flat (some wood curves and is not a good surface) sizes 4×6ft or bigger.

- Grab a $5 can of mis-tinted enamel paint (paint guy should be able to point you there). Doesnt matter what color (as long as its enamel), its just to prime the surface for more paint.

- Might have to grab a roller handle and sponge (cheapest will do), if you dont have one already. Just roll the paint on fairly even, but really, as long as it covers all the wood you are good.

- Let it dry overnight!

James Jean

For those of you who arent familiar with James, hes a dope illustrator based out of Los Angeles. Check his stuff out and be inspired…

Picasso’s late paintings and prints at the Gagosian Gallery

When you think of Picasso, you think of his “Blue Period” or perhaps his involvement in the movement, Cubism. However, there is more to the art and to the man just before he passed in 1973. Much of his work in the last stages of his life have been overlooked and considered irrelevant, until now.

The Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea New York has his paintings and art on exhibit titled as “Picasso: Mosqueteros“. It is the first public appearance for the paintings because of the curiosity and demand to view his work. It is rare and special moment. Curators, researchers, and professors alike have had thought his mind frail, skittish and often showed up in his work. The work that was once questionable is now presented in a different light. According to the press release it is looked as “exhibition suggests how the portrayal of the aged Picasso, bound to the past in his life and painting, has obscured the highly innovative and contemporary nature of the late work”
